Thursday Letter 1.09.22

Dear Staff,

I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer break and that you are looking forward to the year ahead. We are delighted to be back at school and we anticipate a happy and successful year for the boys.

New Staff Appointments

I would like to welcome our newly appointed teachers: Luke Walsh (2nd class), Diarmuid O’Brien (5th Class) and Cara Cribbon (SET). I would like to congratulate Leah Hennessy (5th class), Aimee Donovan (3rd class) and Emma Ryan (1st class) who were re-appointed this year. I would also like to welcome back Caroline Geraghty, who has been on career break for the past number of years and will be working with 1st class. Welcome to SNAs Anna Dunne and Alice Norris who will be working with us for this academic year.

Ms. Russell’s special class

We are delighted to open our new special class for children with autism and complex needs. I would like to wish Alison Russell, Catherine Kelly and Rachael Roberts all the best with this exciting venture which will make our school even more inclusive.

School Improvements

We have invested much of our time during the summer converting room 18 into our new special class. We have installed a side door that will lead to a designated outdoor play area for the children. A new wheelchair accessible toilet has been placed within the classroom. We have invested in a sensory pod, MyTouch interactive screen and our sensory room will be located across the corridor. The boys will sit and work at their own custom made individual work station.

New carpets were fitted in all mainstream classrooms in the old school building and all windows have been washed and cleaned. More iPads were purchased this summer which will allow fifth and sixth class to carry out their coding classes in their own classrooms.

We are also very grateful to our cleaning staff, Bernie, Marion, Paula, Aileen, Dolores and Noeleen who worked diligently to have our school ready for today.

Our school caretaker

Throughout the summer much progress has been made on our school grounds and I would like to thank our caretaker, Donie Gaire, for his hard work. Donie has installed new storage units in many of the classrooms throughout the school. The flowerbeds in the front of the school were weeded and new mulch was placed around the plants. Our front gate was sanded and painted and there are plans to sand and paint the entire green fence on Chapel Hill. Donie was also instrumental in fitting out, painting and reconfiguring our new special class and we appreciate all his effort.

After-school Activities:

Lego Club: All parents received an email from the school earlier today regarding information about our lego club from Ms Friel and Ms. Copley.

Table tennis: Table tennis lessons will take place every Monday after school from 2.40pm to 3.40pm for boys from 4th to 5th class. Training sessions will be run by Chris Ring, a former Irish Junior development squad coach, current table tennis head coach in Castleknock College and founder of Table Tennis Valley. Each class will cost €7.

There will be Table Tennis available to adults every Tuesday and Thursday 7.00-8.30 in our school hall.

Please call Chris for more information at 087 241 2664.

There are plans to have keyboard classes and a chess club. We hope to have more information on these activities next week.

I am fortunate to lead a great school with a committed and hard-working staff and well-behaved pupils and I hope that the forthcoming year will bring more productivity and success. Parental support, engagement and communication is vital to the successful running of our school.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
