Thursday Letter 11.05.23

19-May-23

Dear Parents,

Sports Day

Our School Sports day on Sunday was a great success. Thanks to all the parents involved with the Sports Day Committee who spent so many hours behind the scenes planning the event. We really appreciate all the parents and teachers who volunteered on the day. I would like to acknowledge our school caretaker, Donie Gaire, for all the time and effort that he put in.

Request for resources (toys in good condition) for Aistear (play-based lessons) for the Infant classes

Aistear is the curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. Aistear describes the types of learning (dispositions, values and attitudes, skills, knowledge, and understanding) that are important for children in their early years, and offers ideas and suggestions as to how this learning might be nurtured. The Framework also provides guidelines on supporting children’s learning through partnerships with parents, interactions, play, and assessment.

Aistear has four main themes:

  1. Wellbeing
  2. Identity and belonging
  3. Communicating
  4. Exploring and thinking

The teachers use play and roll play within these themes to teach the programme to Junior and Senior Infants. We are collecting resources for Aistear (play based learning) in the infant classes for next year. We are looking for donations of toys etc. that you may have at home. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Can you please ensure that anything you do donate is in good condition. If you have any of the following items at home, please send them into the school on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th May and leave them in the school hall, from 8:30am-9am / 1:40 -3:00pm or alternatively send them in with your son.

Please read through the following list of items that the teachers require:

Play kitchen, toy food, toy delph, toy cutlery, toy pots and pans, toy tea-sets, cash registers, toy card machine, trolleys, baskets, play food, play money, toy or old landline and mobile phones, dolls, doll house, doll’s clothes, doctor’s set, dentist set, dress-up costumes, kid’s aprons, toy animals (zoo/farm/pets) play tent, small chalk/white boards, assorted vehicles.

Coding – Online payment for fifth and sixth class

The final term of coding starts today. All parents of fifth and sixth class were sent an online payment via Aladdin Connect. The coding costs €30 approximately per child. The Parents’ Association cover €10 and we ask parents to cover the balance of €20.

School Uniform

Please remember that the school tracksuit is only to be worn on the days that the boys do PE. The only exception to this is if the boys have training at lunch break. We will be checking from time to time to try to encourage the boys to wear the correct uniform. Please remember that children can wear grey shorts with their uniform on warmer days. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to label tracksuit tops and jumpers.

Lucan Community College (LCC) Orientation Tour on the 24th May from 9.15 – 10.45am

Hurling

All four Junior hurling teams played games on Tuesday. The Junior A team lost to Bishop Galvin. The Junior B team beat St. Mary’s, Booterstown while the Junior C team played against the Junior D team on our school pitch which attracted a big crowd. Best of luck to our Senior A team who play Belgrove in a friendly and the Senior B team who play Diswellstown. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Ms. Ryan, Mr. Walsh and Mr. O’Brien for all their help with our hurling teams.

Cricket

Well done to our fourth class boys who took part in a cricket blitz organised by Leinster Cricket on Tuesday in Corkagh Park. Ten schools entered the competition and they all had great fun practicing their bowling and batting. The boys who took part were Hannan Syed, Hamza Imran, Brody Williams, Will Keane, Kealan Carley, Ayaan Khan, Jazim Khan and Gavin Steephan. Thanks to Mr. Keegan for organising this event and to Ms. Teehan and Mr. Reynolds for taking the team.
