Thursday Letter 28.04.22

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome everyone back after the Easter holidays and hope that you all had an enjoyable time.

We have decided to run our successful Bob-a-job fundraiser again this year. Thanks to all your efforts last year we were able to purchase new laptops. This year we are hoping to use any funds raised for our new sports hall.

Please find attached a sponsorship card for every boy in the school. We hope that the boys will receive up to €1 for every job that they complete at home such as washing the dishes, bringing the dog for a walk, hoovering the house, washing the car, etc. The boys will note the completion of their chore on their card. We encourage parents to email photos of the boys as they work on their jobs and we will display them on our school Facebook page. As a reward for their efforts the boys will have a full day of fun, sport and activity in June. The closing date for all cards and money will be Tuesday 17th May.

Extra Garda presence on Chapel Hill

The local Garda station in Lucan have informed me that there will be an extra Garda presence on Chapel Hill before and after school. They are concerned with the number of cars that are parked on the footpath, in the loading bay and on double yellow lines. Some cars received fines during the week and parents are asked to take care when parking on Chapel Hill. The Gardaí have informed me that there are still a number of free spaces in the car park opposite the Church in the mornings and afternoons.

Sports Day – Sunday 15th May

The annual School Sports day for St. Mary's boys and Scoil Mhuire girls school will be held onSunday May 15th from 2pmat the grounds of St.Mary's Boys’ National School. We need your help. We are looking for 140 parent volunteers to give 30-45 minutes of your time to help out on the day. If you are available to help, please email your name, mobile number, child's school & class/classes to

A successful sports day relies on the help of our volunteers. Please find attached the schedule for our sports day with date, time, entrance fee and track order. Many thanks to our Sports Day Committee for all their hard work organising this event.

Fundraiser for Red Cross

Thanks to all the families who supported our fundraiser for The Irish Red Cross on Friday 8th April. We managed to raise €1158 for this international organisation that helps to alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. We hope that this money will help the people in Ukraine, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and other similar countries in the world.

Accord Presentation on Relationships and Sexuality for fifth and sixth class boys

Accord will give their presentation on 'Relationships and Sexuality' to sixth class boys on Tuesday 3rd May and fifth class boys on Thursday 5th May. Thanks to all the parents who logged in to Accord’s information night last night via Microsoft Teams. Accord would like to apologise for initially sending incorrect login details. This presentation was recorded and I will try to send it to parents who were unable to login. Thanks to our Parents’ Association for funding the cost of this service.

Green Schools

Our fifth and sixth class boys went on a wonderful biodiversity walk in the village led by Gerry Spain from South Dublin County Council. They went to the medieval Church of the Blessed Virgin and then into Vesey Park which are both managed by South Dublin County Council as biodiverse rich environments. They spotted lots of wild flowers, butterflies and trees along the way. Teachers and students all learned so much from Gerry and the boys were delighted with the goodie bags he left too. He will come back next week for walks with the green school committee and other classes.

Goodie bags

Thanks to our Parents’ Association for organising goodie bags for boys who celebrated their First Confession and Confirmation recently. We are very grateful to Orna Thompson, Caitriona Conway, Erico Martins, Chinny O’Hehir and Cliodhna O’Carroll for organising these treats for the boys.

Trócaire Boxes

Families can return their Trócaire boxes to the school and we will lodge it with Trócaire on their behalf.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
