06-September-23

Dear Parents,

New Staff Appointments

I would like to welcome our newly appointed teachers: Karen Kyne (SET), Claire Joyce (5th Class) and Seán Harkin (Supply Panel). I would like to congratulate Luke Walsh (2nd class), Niall Shannon (2nd class) and Rory McHugh (3rd class) who were re-appointed this year. I would also like to welcome back Sheena Noonan, who has been on career break and will be job sharing with Bronagh Garry in Senior Infants. Welcome back to SNAs Anna Dunne and Laura Mooney who will be working with us for this academic year.

Farewell to Mr. Dineen

We have to bid farewell to Mr. Dineen who started working in our school over 11 years ago. Mr. Dineen commuted every day from Co. Meath and has secured a teaching post in a school close to where he lives. Mr. Dineen volunteered many hours to help out with the school football teams and our school played in the final in Croke Park many times thanks to his hard work. We really appreciate all the work, effort and time Mr. Dineen gave to our school which helped to make it a better place for all the boys. We will miss him and wish him well in his new school.

John Kelly RIP

We are very sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of one of our former colleagues, John Kelly. John worked in our school for 40 years. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

School Improvements:

We invested much of our time during the summer converting the photocopying room and the first aid room into two new SET rooms. We received a grant to cover new furniture for all children in our school. We purchased over 250 new tables and over 500 new chairs. We installed extra storage in eight classrooms. We invested in over 30 new iPads and a new MyTouch interactive screen for room 14.

Our school caretaker

I would like to thank our school caretaker, Donie Gaire, for all his hard work throughout the summer months.

Donie was instrumental in fitting out, painting and reconfiguring our two new SET rooms and we appreciate all his effort. He installed new storage units in many of the classrooms throughout the school. This should free up more space on the classroom floor. Doors for these units will be in place in the next few weeks.

All school windows have been washed and cleaned. We are also very grateful to our cleaning staff who worked diligently to have our school ready for today.

School Attendance

Boys are encouraged to attend school every day unless they are unwell. We will continue to ventilate our classrooms and encourage good hand hygiene. If your child is unwell or cannot attend school, please send a note in his school journal or via Aladdin to inform the class teacher of the reason for his absence.

New Traffic Warden – Caroline Tarpey

I would like to wish our new traffic warden Caroline Tarpey the best of luck in her new role.

The Lunch Bag Company

We would like to remind parents that we engage with the Lunch Bag Company. They deliver ready-made lunches to our school at an extra cost each morning. Please see their website, www.lunchbag.ie for more information.

Appointments with Teachers

Please contact our school secretary if you wish to make an appointment with your class teacher or special educational teacher (SET).

Personal note

I am fortunate to lead a great school with a committed and hard-working staff and well-behaved pupils and I hope that the forthcoming year will bring more productivity and success. Parental support, engagement and communication is vital to the successful running of our school.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
