Thursday Letter 31.03.22

Dear Parents,

Comprehension Strategy, Writing Genre and PE Strand

We are taking a whole school approach to writing genres and comprehension strategies. This month we will focus on ‘Explanation’ as our writing genre. ‘Skimming and scanning’ will be our comprehension strategy. Ms. Murray’s fifth class have displayed wonderful samples of blogs that they wrote recently. The standard of their handwriting and presentation is excellent. We look forward to seeing work from Ms. Whitney’s fourth class and Mr. Clandillon’s sixth class at the end of April.

First Confession – Wednesday 30th March 2022 in St. Mary’s Church at 7pm

Well done to our second class boys who made their First Confession last night in St. Mary’s Church. Ms. Walsh, Ms. Staunton, Mary Dwyer and Dympna Hudson deserve a lot of credit for preparing the boys for this Sacrament.

Confirmation – Thursday 7th April in St. Mary’s Church at 12.

Confirmation will take place in St. Mary’s Church on Thursday 7th April at 12. County Photos will take a photo of the class after the Easter Holidays on Tuesday 26th April.

Children arriving very early for school

Please remember that there is no supervision available for children before 8.45 in our school except for children who attend Sherpa. Children who arrive before 8.45am are here at their own risk and must remain at the gate.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is full of jumpers and tracksuit tops which may be due to warmer weather with pupils removing them during break time. Can you please make sure that your child’s clothes are labelled. There is a label provided on the neck of the jumper and the back of the crest could be used on the tracksuit top.

Lucan Youth Fun Summer Camp – 4th to 8th July

Lucan Youth Fun are currently planning to run a one week camp this year on the week of the 4th July. This of course is subject to getting a school as a base and will depend on the government guidelines. The camp is only one week this year as their committee is low on numbers and experience, however, they are going to make it a great week. For one week they are estimating the price to be €65 + 7% service fee.

For those of you who have been to this camp before, you will be happy to know that they are now going online with registration and this will be open on Friday 22nd April through to Sunday 24th (closing at midnight). An open night will be held on Thursday 7th April at 8pm in St. Mary’s Parish Centre for those who wish to know more about who they are and what they do. Please check out their Facebook page for more information.

Our Senior hurling teams are looking forward to the Cumann na mBunscol competitions after Easter. Best of luck to the senior A hurlers who play Scoil San Treasa in Mount Merrion this afternoon in a challenge match. Congrats to Victor Adanikin who was appointed captain of the school team. An internal hurling blitz started this week during lunch break which has created a lot of interest. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Ms. Teehan, Mr. Shanahan and Ms. Ryan for all their hard work promoting hurling in our school.

Daragh Lyons – Dublin Minor Hurling team

Well done to one of our past pupils, Daragh Lyons, who was selected to play with the Dublin minor hurlers. Unfortunately, they were beaten in their first game by Wexford by one point last weekend.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
