Thursday Letter 8.09.22

Dear Parents,

Junior Infants

On behalf of everyone at St. Mary’s BNS, I wish to extend a warm welcome to our new Junior Infants and their parents who joined our school community. It was a big day for the boys on their first official day at school on Friday and I was delighted to see them settle in so well. We look forward to seeing them grow and mature as they progress through the school. Parents can walk their child directly to their classroom door at 8.45am and from the classroom at the end of the day on very wet days. Many thanks to Ms. Brennan, Ms. Friel and Ms. Ward for inviting the Junior Infant parents to visit their classrooms on their first day.

Parking in Sarsfield Park

It has been reported to our school that a small number of parents have been parking on the footpath in Sarsfield Park and blocking access for pedestrians. Families with small children have no option but to walk on the road to pass these cars. This has also been an ongoing issue on Chapel Hill. The resident’s committee in Sarsfiled Park mentioned that some parents have parked in front of gates and blocked other access routes in their estate. We ask parents not to obstruct footpaths or block gates and park responsibly and respectfully.

Comprehension Strategy, Writing Genre and PE Strand

We are taking a whole school approach to writing genres, comprehension strategies and our PE strand. This month we will focus on ‘Report’ and ‘Recount’ as our writing genre. ‘Prediction’ will be our comprehension strategy. Ms. Clarke’s third class will display some of their samples of ‘Report’ or ‘Recount’ in our hall at the end of the month.

Missing Jumper

A new green school jumper (size 30) was found on the Lock Road near Courtneys pub. Unfortunately it had no name on it. Please let your son’s teacher know if you think it may belong to him. Please make sure that you label your son’s uniform in case it goes missing. Some labels can be ironed on and there is also an option to write their name on the other side of the school crest inside their jumper/ tracksuit top.

Chess Club

Chess Club will begin on Tuesday 20th October from 2.40pm - 3.40pm and will run every Tuesday after that for a ten-week block, at a cost of €50.00. Chess Club is designed for pupils in 4th – 6th class inclusive. Playing chess significantly improves children’s visual memory, attention span and spatial reasoning ability. If interested, please bring completed form (that will be emailed today) and fee to the school secretary. For more information please contact ms.cribbon@stmarysbnslucan.com.
