Dear Parents,
Elliot Higgins-Portet – News2day
We were delighted to welcome the RTÉ cameras on Monday morning to our school. News2day is a show presented by RTÉ that broadcasts domestic and international news items of interest to younger viewers and they came to interview Elliot Higgins-Portet about his performance on the programme Dizzy Deliveries.
Dizzy Deliveries is the first TV show to use the key word signing system Lámh. Lámh is used by children and adults with Down syndrome, autism, and communication difficulties to support their communication and self-expression. Elliot’s brother, Matthieu, and Adam O’Donnell’s sister, Beth, also features on the episode. Thanks to the Lucan Spa Hotel for lending us their red carpet for Elliot’s big day.

Autism Awareness Day
Many thanks to everyone who donated money to ‘As I Am’ last Friday for Autism Awareness Day. We managed to raise €867. Many of our older classes were invited to visit the Oasis room. Arham Khan recited a poem on the school intercom that was written by a poet with autism. Thanks to Ms. Russell, Catherine Kelly and Rachael Kilroy for organising this event.
Sixth Class tour to Glasnevin Cemetery and the Phoenix Park
Our sixth class boys were fortunate to have great weather for their trip to Glasnevin Cemetery and the Phoenix Park. The boys saw the final resting place of Irish heroes such as Daniel O’Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Michael Collins, Eamon de Valera and many more. Thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Ms. Teehan and Ms. Hennessy for organising this tour.
Cultural Awareness
Last Friday we were entertained by some wonderful facts about Tanzania and Rwanda from Harun Nahimana (Ms. Hennessy’s sixth class). We look forward to hearing about the culture, history and language of South Africa tomorrow.
Food Dudes
We have received some positive feedback from the Food Dudes Programme this week with some boys sampling some of the fruit and vegetables for the very first time. Thanks to Ms. Russell and Ms. Donnelly for helping to distribute the food each morning.
Senior Hurling team
Best of luck to our senior hurling team who play Belgrove BNS today in Lucan Sarsfields at 2.30pm. Many thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Ms. Ryan, Mr. Walsh and Mr. McHugh for giving up so much of their time to train the teams and bring them to their matches.
