10-November-25

Dear Parents,

GOAL Jersey Day – Friday 10th October

GOAL is a non-profit, humanitarian aid organisation founded in Ireland that provides emergency response, health, nutrition, food security, livelihoods and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) support to vulnerable communities worldwide. We ask all boys to wear a jersey of their choice with their tracksuit bottoms tomorrow and bring €2 to school to help with this worthy cause.

Subs (€25) and Insurance (€9)

Thanks to all parents who have paid the subs and insurance that was set up as an online payment on Aladdin last week. We have decided to revert to the old system of fundraising this year so we are asking parents to make a one-off voluntary contribution of €25 instead of €100 last year. We do hope to match the remaining balance of €75 this year through various fundraising events such as our ‘Bob-a-Job, Christmas Calendar, Readalong, Cake Sale and other events. Our school secretary set up a payment link for this last week.

Junior Infant Applications for September 2026

We are accepting Junior Infant applications for September 2026 from the 1st October to the 14th November. Applications can be downloaded from our school website.

Bob-a-Job – ‘No Written Homework Day’ on Tuesday 14th October to work on their chores

There will be no written homework for boys on Tuesday 14th October so that they can concentrate on their Bob-a-Job chores and help raise well-needed funds for the school. We encourage parents to email photos of the boys as they work on their jobs and we will display them on our school Facebook page. The email is info@stmarysbnslucan.com. This year we plan to use the funds raised to revamp our sports hall with fresh paint, new display boards, new furniture and new sports equipment. The closing date for all cards and money will be Wednesday 15th October.

It’s only a matter of time that Lucan will be awarded its first Michelin Star restaurant thanks to the culinary skills of Joseph Chacko Anu (Mr. Keegan’s Fifth Class), Ronan Carey (Ms. Donnelly’s first class), James Keogh (Ms. Brennan’s second class), Ewan Bonmati (Mr. Lynch’s Fourth Class) and Ransh Singh (Ms. Dardis Junior Infants). Any Michelin Star restaurants in Lucan are going to need some diligent kitchen porters and they could happily recruit Leo Collopy (Ms. Joyce’s Junior Infants), Leo O’Mahoney (Ms. Donnelly’s First Class), Aidan Kinch (Ms. Dardis Junior Infants), Adam Birmingham (Ms. Killane’s Senior Infants), George O’Neill (Ms. Joyce’s Junior Infants), Fionn Lally (Ms. Killane’s Senior Infants) and Oscar Lally (Ms. Kenny’s First Class) who can fill a dishwasher or hand wash cutlery at the click of a finger. Alyaan Shaheryer (Ms. Killane’s Senior Infants) is the ultimate multi-tasker as he is so busy washing dishes, making his bed and sorting out the laundry. Luke Moore (Ms. Brennan’s second class) is another man who can juggle many chores as he was busy setting the table, hoovering the carpet and bringing out the rubbish. On the topic of laundry, Theo Boland (Ms. Dardis Junior Infants), James Regan (Ms. Quinn’s Third Class) and Darragh Regan (Ms. Kenny’s First Class) are so precise when it comes to pressing and folding their clean linen. James Keogh (Ms. Brennan’s Second Class) likes to get the bins out for collection on time each week. Aaron Henry-Ilha (Ms. Geraghty’s Senior Infants) is such a kind and considerate boy as helps to bring the shopping in from the car. Diarmuid Gavin would be proud of Affan Khuram (Ms. Deeley’s fifth class), Matthew MacHugh (Ms. Dardis’ Junior Infants) and Patrick Garvey (Ms. Joyce’s Junior Infants) as he takes such good care of the plants around his house, while Jack Linnane (Ms. Joyce’s Junior Infants) enjoys mowing the lawn. Luke McDermott (Ms. Kenny’s First Class) has got all angles covered. Not only does he do his best for the environment by recycling bottles but he also earns a few euro for his effort by returning his empty cans and plastic bottles. We have a lot of dog lovers in St. Mary’s and this is very evident by the actions of Senan Lynch (Mr. Trainor’s Fifth class) and Joshua Johnson (Ms. Murphy’s Fourth Class) who like to take their talks out for some well-needed exercise. Jack Carthy (Ms. Noonan’s Senior Infants) and Dara Carthy (Mr. Walsh’s Second Class) make a good team as they clean doors and polish furniture around the house. The hoover brigade are back with Calvin Steephan (Mr. Lynch’s Fourth Class), Cian O’Sullivan (Ms. Geraghty’s Senior Infants), Hamza Jahanzab (Ms. Brennan’s Second Class) and Oisín Ellis (Mr. Lynch’s fourth class) using some fancy hands free Dyson hoovers. Harry Kenny (Ms. Donnelly’s First Class) and Andrew Rath (Ms. Staunton’s Fourth Class) on the other hand prefer the old fashioned sweeping brush. There is not a leaf to be seen in the Lucan area this Autumn and that’s all thanks to the effort and dedication of Liam Harte (Ms. Noonan’s Senior Infants) Leaves, Sean Griffin (Ms. Brennan’s second class), Darragh Regan (Ms. Kenny’s first class), Henry Ward (Ms. Geraghty’s Senior Infants), Senan Doyle (Ms. Joyce’s Junior Infants), Max Curley (Ms. Noonan’s Senior Infants) and Fionn Malone (Ms. Dardis’ Junior Infants).

All the boys can check out some of these photos on our school Facebook page.

Gaelic Football

Well done to our Junior footballers who played their last game of the season in Lucan Sarsfields yesterday against Ballyroan BNS. Thanks to Mr. Shanahan, Mr. Walsh, Mr. R. McHugh, Ms. Deeley, Mr. D. McHugh and Mr. Trainor for all the time they volunteer to train the boys at lunch time and take the boys to the games after school.

Le dea-ghuí,

Dara Burke, Principal.
