Dear Parents,
Green Schools Day of Action
Tomorrow is our Green School Day of Action for 2024. All boys will be learning about the theme of Global Citizenship covering interesting topics such as Fair Trade, Fast Fashion and Food Miles. These topics are based on the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development. The boys will also be doing outdoor activities like litter picking, nature walks and gardening. Some classes will be asked to bring in gloves if you have them at home so please check your son's journal.
The Green School committee moved three tonnes of compost today into our new raised beds so they are ready for planting tomorrow. This would have been a massive job for Donie so we're really grateful to all the boys. Mr Burke gave the boys a treat and a homework pass.
Cultural Awareness
Last Friday we were entertained by some wonderful facts about South Africa from Jack Martin (Ms. Hunston’s fourth class). Jack received some help and support from his classmates too. We look forward to hearing about the culture, history and language of Egypt tomorrow.
Senior Hurling team
Best of luck to our senior hurling team who play Scoil Mhuire Marino today in Lucan Sarsfields at 2.30pm. Our Junior A hurlers had a good win over Knocklyon on Tuesday and our Junior B and Junior C team played against each other on our school pitch. Many thanks to Mr. Clandillon, Mr. Keegan, Ms. Ryan, Mr. Walsh and Mr. McHugh for giving up so much of their time to train the teams and bring them to their matches.
Parents working with INTEL
Thanks to all our parents who work for INTEL who helped to raise €5,124 this year. They have managed to raise a total of €32,000 to date for our school. We plan to use this year’s money to upgrade and improve facilities and resources for the children with special needs in the school. The hope is all the boys will get the use of these facilities from time to time too. In previous years, this money helped to fund iPads and interactive whiteboards. Many of these parents volunteered their time to visit the school during Engineers Week. Thanks to Fergal Higgins for coordinating this initiative.
Le dea-ghuí,
Dara Burke, Principal.
